LCD Television
An LCD television is a high-quality display for your home entertainment needs. LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Display, and these televisions are known for their clarity, low energy consumption and versatility. You can commonly purchase LCD televisions in a variety of sizes, and you can talk to a professional listed on Television.com.au about the different levels of definition, processing power and connectivity options.
The beginnings of LCD television
The LCD television began with Friedrich Reinitzer's 1888 discovery of cholesterol's liquid crystalline display. By 1936, the first practical application of liquid crystals was patented by the Marconi Wireless Telegraph Company.
By the 1970s, the Japanese electronics industry developed the first digital quartz watches, which used LCDs. And finally in 1972, the prototype for today's LCD television - the first active-matrix LCD panel - was invented by T. Peter Brody.
Advantages of using LCD television
There are many advantages to LCD television sets. Apart from the obvious clarity in display and low power usage, you can watch your LCD television from almost anywhere in the room. The flat display panels are typically thin and relatively lightweight, and viewing quality remains high in a variety of lighting scenarios.
LCD screens are often recommended for those who play a lot of video games as there is no chance of burn-in on the screen, as opposed to plasma televisions. Although, these days modern technology has brought the two different types of TV much closer together. LCD TVs have also become much more affordable, and you can now obtain LCD televisions in a range of sizes. Check out our television guide to compare other TVs to an LCD Television.
