TELEVISION veteran Bert Newton has become a grandfather. His daughter, television personality Lauren Newton, has given birth to Sam Albert Newton Welsh, the first child for her and her husband, Olympic swimmer Matt Welsh. "Lauren is beautiful, Matt is as handsome as ever and Sam is the star of the family," Bert Newton told the Nine Network yesterday morning. Sam was born three weeks early in Melbourne on Monday.
